Vaccination

Dogs are all unique individuals and their vaccination schedules should be discussed and agreed upon with their veterinarian. More than 20 years of experience (and research) boarding various breeds and personalities have only solidified the notion that not all dogs are the same! Our passion and goal at Pine Creek Pet Resort is to keep your (and our part-time) furry family healthy and happy during their stay with us. We encourage you, the pet-parents, to make informed decisions on your choice of vaccinations for your particular pet. We must always adhere to Rabies as it is both state and federal law. See below for other vaccination requirements.

Common Sense Boarding & Vaccination Policies

Rabies vaccine is required by both state and federal law in order to board. It must be given at 3 months, 1 year and every 3 years thereafter.

D.A.P. (Distemper, Adenovirus, Parvovirus) is considered a “Core” vaccine by veterinarians and regulatory agencies. Puppies receive a series of shots until they are 4 to 5 months old, then an additional booster at 1 year of age. Adult dogs receive boosters every 3 years. As an alternative, a vaccine titer test can be run and the vaccine given only if needed. Aging dogs or those with health issues exempt per veterinarian recommendations.

Bordetella, Parainfluenza, Lyme, and Leptospirosis are “Non-core” vaccines and are given depending on the dog’s exposure and risk. These are typically annual vaccines.

Proof of vaccines or titers, on veterinarian letterhead, is required.

Live, Modified Live, and Attenuated vaccines can carry a viral load that is capable of mutating and/or shedding for 45 days after administration, increasing the possibility of passing a contagious cold. Boosters are also vaccines that carry viral loads.

Bordetella (the vaccine for Canine Cough), Distemper Combination Vaccines, and some Influenza vaccines can be live, modified live, and attenuated. Common Sense Says that if a vaccine has the capability of shedding/mutating for 45 days after administration, then the dog should not be boarded within 45 days of said vaccination.

With that being said, any vaccines that are due that are Live, Modified Life, and Attenuated must be administered a minimum of 45 days prior to boarding with us. (Note: Killed vaccines can be given 30 days prior to boarding.)

In addition, we now require a 2 week lead time between boarding elsewhere, or using daycare, and boarding at our facility. Two weeks is the approximate incubation period of a contagious cough or cold, so symptoms should arise in that time frame if a pet has been infected.

These protocols are designed so that we can do our best to keep your pets healthy. Although it is impossible to completely prevent a canine cold, our policies will help drastically reduce the number of occurrences and reduce the chance of spreading.

Thank you for keeping all of our boarding pets safe!
